Bindi-lee & Ben – wedding on a cattle station, North Queensland

How do I possibly recreate in a short Blog the magic of Bindi-lee & Ben’s fabulous wedding in outback Queensland? Choosing the images was difficult enough, considering I took 5,500 in the 48 hours I was at “Spring Creek”! (Yeah, I admit it, I’m an obsessed wedding photographer ?)

It was a 3 day family & friend love-fest shindig that can only happen in the bush!

The first thing to mention is the insane amount of work that goes into creating an event of this proportions in the middle of no-where! Every shimmering light, every wine glass, every toilet, had to shipped in with the closest centre being Cairns or Townsville both around 330 km and 4 hours drive away.

To give you a sense of the magnitude of just what the Collins family embarked on, the glamping tents travelled 1,600 km from the Sunshine Coast and took 3 men 2 days to erect.

The caterers came from Townsville! Seriously, it’s crazy and totally fabulous what it took to bring it all together.

The distance is daunting but it is the work that Bindi’s parents Perry & Nicola put in in the months that lead up to the wedding that is truly amazing. They transformed the homestead and surrounds into a classy wedding venue. The whole while running their 75,000 acre cattle station as they have done together for the past 17 years.

Another thing that makes this family remarkable is that Bindi-lee’s Great Great Grandfather settled on “Spring Creek” in 1862, isn’t that impressive?

While Bindi & Ben are making their lives in Melbourne, it was always clear to Bindi that she go home to be married. Her beloved “Spring Creek” was to be the backdrop for what would be an extraordinary affair.

Ben’s family hale from Torquay, Victoria so this trip was an adventure for them! They could never have imagined that one day they would be travelling to the outback to see their son marry his sweetheart.

This was a once in a lifetime experience for all the guests that had come from Melbourne, the remoteness and distance involved, to be a 45 minute drive from even the closest neighbour, to get a joy ride in a helicopter, to experience the bush and all her magic…and her challenges…one of Ben’s groomsmen even got to chase a (extremely venomous brown) snake out from one of the glamping tents!

This wedding was also very special for me on a personal level. I attended Boarding School with Bindi-lee’s mum Nicola over 40 years ago (gasp!!!) and Bindi became my daughter Whitney’s best friend when they too boarded together in Charters Towers. Bindi is so very important to me, I relate to her as my 3rd daughter, to be allowed the honour of being her wedding photographer was something else ❤️

Thank you Bindi-lee and Ben. For making my job so awesome, for having gorgeous families & friends, for just being so damn lovely yourselves. I am going to enjoy watching your journey together in the years to come with enormous pleasure and pride.
