Tips For Getting Ready On Your Wedding Day

Your wedding morning will soon be here! You have planned like a Legend, attended to a zillion details in the weeks leading up and you are KEEN for the show to start!

You have carefully scheduled a bunch of things for this day, from what time hair and makeup are due to what time to be out the door to walk down the aisle.

But have you considered all that goes into the getting ready part of your wedding day? It can be easy to overlook how important this is.

Get a good nights sleep

I highly suggest finding any way possible to get a good sleep before your wedding day.

  • Warm milk
  • Lavender sachet
  • Essential Oils
  • Counting sheep

You get the picture.

I promise you, your brain is going to be determinedly switched “on”!
Find a sleeping solution long before the eve of your wedding.

Have a shipshape space

Delegate someone to keep the space in order. If you are feeling a bit frazzled, clutter won’t serve you! And there is nothing more stressful than when an important item can’t be found! I’ve had a Bride have a meltdown when the earrings were temporarily mislaid!

Another reason for a clean space is that your photographer is going to be taking lots of photos, from all angles, of every detail! You don’t want a messy background in your photos.

What to wear

No, these photos aren’t from a styled shoot! Anna was a super organized bride who clearly planned ahead to achieve the getting ready vibe she imagined!

Besides looking fabulous and well-coordinated for getting ready shots, there’s a good reason for all the robes and button down shirts seen on Social Media. Can you guess why?

It may seem obvious, but wearing a shirt that you have to pull over your head after having your hair done is a disaster waiting to happen!

Hands down, robes make great gifts for the bridal party.  They actually make a useful gift that can be worn over and over again long after the wedding day.

Find a room with lot of natural light

If you are getting ready at home this tip is something you are going to want to do ahead of time.  Make sure you have the perfect well lit room, it won’t only be conducive to a sense of openness but your hair & makeup artists will thank you, not to mention your photographer! Lots of natural light = beautiful getting ready shots!

Delegat, delegate, delegate!

Nominate a trusted person in your bridal party or your planner to direct questions and queries to and take charge of your phone. Delegate all last minute jobs, I promise you your loved ones want to contribute so let them!

Have all of your accessories ready

Some people want me to get the artsy styled detail shots, some prefer the documentary style of non-styled wedding-dress-on-the-body-not-the-coat-hanger shots.

If you are the former, to help you be prepared and for me to get the best possible shots of all your gorgeous details, have invitations, bouquet, dress, jewellery, shoes, rings (ideally both bride’s and groom’s) ready and waiting in the room. This means I don’t have to pester you by having to ask that you locate them, they can just go about getting the gorgeous detail shots that you paid your hard earned dollars for.

Turn up the music!

The getting ready portion of the day is highly charged with emotions with feelings of  nervousness, anticipation, excitement, joy, tears, and laughter!  To cool your nerves and keep any tension at ease, create a playlist with some of your favourite tunes 🎶
