Some of my favourite images for 2020

2020 did not go to plan.

The coronavirus has been a nasty thorn in the side of marrying couples, turning the entire world into an unimaginable shitshow in a way we could never have foreseen.
*Footnote* The definition of shitshow – ‘a situation or event marked by chaos or controversy’
Pretty much sums it up don’t you think?

I started to receive communication from anxious Brides in March, some postponing, some cancelling, all of them devastated. Their wedding day vision was in tatters. Despite their heartbreak, they were all incredibly generous minded towards me as we went about finding a way to come up with a Plan B, C & D.
A wedding day can only happen once, an enormous amount of emotion (and $$) go into the planning. To have it thwarted is tough to take.

And with the recent outbreaks in the southern states, some of my Melbourne couples that chose to postpone are still in the world of wondering just what is going to happen in the coming months. How cruel is that? All they can do is hang in there and pray that our contact tracing strategies keep coronavirus in check. It sure sucks out all the excitement and anticipation that normally accompanies the lead up to a wedding day.

    Some great things still happened..

While I did not shoot a wedding for many months, I was lucky enough to capture a few through the year. When my southern colleagues were in stage 4 lockdown I was blessed with two outback shindigs. I can remember standing in the middle of the paddock knowing that any Victorian photographer would have given a left one to be doing the same. And then Victoria opened up in time for me to fly to Melbourne to shoot a traditional Sri Lankan wedding just prior to Xmas. I tell ya, I am one lucky individual.

So here I am to share some of my favs! I do confess that I found it a challenge to keep the number of images to a minimum. A wedding day shoot tells a story when they are viewed in their entirety, which parts of the story do I exclude? So grab a coffee first and enjoy some of my favs.

Oh and Happy New Year! May 2021 be the bloody awesome year you deserve 🌏
