It was at Sam’s 21st in Townsville that she and Ryan first met, and the minute he clapped eyes on her he was keen though his mate and ultimately Best Man Ben communicated his own opinion that Ryan was punching way above his weight and indeed put a carton of beer on Ryan ever having any success in wooing the gorgeous Sam. Well woo he did and Ryan made sure to remind Ben of that in his speech at the wedding on Saturday. Accompanied by their wedding party plus their feisty and fabulous daughter Tori, Sam & Ryan shared their vows in the garden at Leahton Park, Charters Towers premium wedding venue slash home to a magnificent herd of Texas Longhorns. The magical atmosphere of Leahton Park was a great match for this pair, even if it did take 9 years to actually get to it! As Sam shared “Ryan is far from the romantic haha so I didn’t take him for serious when he asked he was sitting on our veranda and just said to me ‘Sam wanna get married?’ I looked at him and laughed and said ‘yeah right’ as we had been together for 9 years already and already had one child, it felt liked we had be married and was something I had long given up on hoping for haha. He had a shocked look and said ‘I’m serious’ I felt instantly bad and said ‘of course.’”
Sam grew up near Georgetown and Ryan hails from Abergowrie, with their combined love of the land and all that comes with it, they are creating a life together at Elwell, south of Prairie.
I always appreciate great couples, genuine and generous, Sam & Ryan were pleasure to hang out with.
What Does Marriage Mean To You?
Finding a best friend someone who will always be there for you and support you through the good and bad.
What was the main inspiration behind your wedding day?
We wanted a relaxed country style wedding. Somewhere where everyone could come and have a great time and just relax and we felt Leahton Park Texas Long Horns really offered that.
How would you describe your day? How did you feel?
S: It was amazing everything was perfect. I never had any expectations of how things should look or the way something should go I was just grateful that I had people willing to help get things set up and organised that morning for me they all did a excellent job and it looked amazing, at the end of the day i was just happy I could marry my best friend. I was so nervous that whole morning as I’m not a person to stand up in front of people and speak but it is a moment I’ll never forget.
R: It was a pretty good day probably the best day of my life. I was a bit nervous at the start but after a few beers to settle the nerves I was alright.
What was your favourite part of the wedding day?
S: The whole thing was great it would be hard to pick just one part. I just loved having everyone there to celebrate with us it really made the day feel extra special. I know a lot of our guests travelled along way to be there.
R: Finally getting hitched. Having everyone together and enjoying a great time. It was good to catch up with family and friends.
Were there any surprises or honourable mentions you’d like to talk about?
It was really nice at speeches that Roy Dunn one of the groomsmen got up totally unprepared and made a speech to us. He really did an excellent job to get up in front of everyone and say something totally unprepared it was very nice.
How does it feel to be Mr & Mrs?!
Not much has changed but I must say it’s a memory that we will both never forget.
