Jasmine & Chris’s Lebanese Wedding in Melbourne

I first met Jasmine & Chris in 2019 when they had an engagement shoot and we were booked for their wedding in 2020. Of course we all know what happened then and the celebration they dreamed of was scuttled, curtesy of COVID. Not having any idea of just when the eternal lockdowns would end, they made the decision to have a Civil wedding in 2020 but always knew they wanted the big fat Lebanese shindig that they deserved! And oh was it worth the wait!

When I arrived at Jasmine’s parents home (who could not have been any more generous) on the day and the place was bursting with people, I knew this was going to be a good one! From the hoards of family, the decked out limo, wedding party determined to make the most of their day and some pretty sensational locations, it was sensory overload!  And speaking of sensors, one of may personal highlights of the day was the drums. Oh man, they are incredible. Lebanese drums are traditionally used at the beginning of a wedding party to herald the entrance of the bride and groom and they are SO LOUD!! It is an explosion on your auditory and physical senses, creating an extraordinary atmosphere, I didn’t want it to end! You can check out a few clips on the Melbourne Entertainment Co (the amazing drummers and musicians in question) though it doesn’t do justice to the real thing.

It is an enormous privilege to be a part of wedding days that involve different cultures and customs, I get an inside view that is not available to a lot of people, I never take that for granted. Sally from the middle of the outback never imagined she would find herself in the heart of a Lebanese wedding in Melbourne. She soaks it up and appreciates every moment.

And it was particularly satisfying to complete this adventure, that began now three years ago, with Jasmine & Chris. They have had to deal with the COVID burden, in all areas of their lives, how terrific it was to see them through to the end of their wedding celebration. The determination and commitment they displayed throughout will put them in great stead in the life they create together.

How did he/she propose?

Chris drove me to Maribyrnong River. He drove up to the end of the river and (without getting out of the car), he leaned over me to grab the ring from the glove box. He slowly took out the ring box, opened it (upside down) and asked me if I would marry him!

What do you love most about each other?

J: He is the most caring and genuine person I have ever met.

C: She is smart, beautiful and caring

What Does Marriage Mean To You?

Marriage means a lifelong commitment to the person that you love forever. It means going through life together with someone by your side.

What was the main inspiration behind your wedding day?

NOT COVID! All jokes aside, we wanted to finally enjoy our celebration together with the main theme being greenery! It seems strange but plants are what gives life. They are something that needs to be taken care of and nurtured. Once this happens the results are awesome. Much like a relationship

How would you describe your day? How did you feel?

Chaos, nervousness, heartfelt, emotional, frustrated. All of the feelings in one day. Right now we are feeling a little tired but so relieved.

What was your favourite part of the wedding day?

Chris wants to say the drinks and the alcohol. But I have to say seeing all of my family and Chris’s family in one room, just enjoying themselves.

How does it feel to be Mr & Mrs?!

Well this is actually Mr and Mrs take 2 as we had our Civil Wedding in June of 2020 due to COVID. Right now we are kind of relaxing and enjoying the day that just passed us 🙂
