An elopement comes with some exclusive benefits. Obviously it means there are only a handful of people involved which means I am not dealing with the regular challenges such as Uncle Bob getting in the way with his camera, the trickier-than-herding-cats group shots, the pressure of ensuring that all the guests are captured…but the greatest of all is the amazing intimate atmosphere. There is a unique ambience to a small gathering that is undeniably magic.
With Cassy’s best friend Amber as ‘unofficial MOH’, bride tribe girls Jo (also responsible for the fabulous styling) & Toni and Damien acting as Best Man, the afternoon was made perfect with the inclusion of Cassy & Nathan’s lads. Lucas, 9, not only did a stella job as ring bearer but his attention to proceedings was so dang gorgeous. As for 2 year old Beau, his attention was on everything but. He had a great time tearing around the place!
Spending the time with Cassy & Nathan and their boys was wonderful, I left the wedding feeling like we’d been mates for years. What a pleasure it was to be their photographer. Can we do it again please?
How did you meet and what were your first impressions?
We met at Tully sugar where we ended up working together quite closely on the locos and became really good friends. Over the few years we worked together feelings developed and our connection grew really strong. I was complaining to him that I’ll never get married because the guy i had been with for 10+ years hadn’t said anything about marriage and straight up Nathan said “Well fuck him, I’ll marry you!!” Here we are almost 5 years later 😀
C: That he was such a larakin, he always had something hilariously inappropriate to say or would just say anything to get a laugh. He definitely had that tall dark and handsome look about him too, those eyes were always very mysterious.
N: That she was an attractive, down to earth positive girl.
I'd love to hear one special memory of your courtship...
A much needed escape to Josephine Falls. We both had a lot going on in our lives and we needed to escape our realities for just a little while. The place was so cleansing and freeing so once we cleared our heads we felt just how strong our connection was, there was no going back after that, we knew it was the real deal and nothing is going to stop it.
How did he/she propose?
It was late one afternoon and i had just finished feeding our 1 month old and he’d fallen asleep on me. Nathan and Lucas walked in the bedroom acting all weird, I was exhausted and just wanted to nap. Lucas came to my side of the bed and said, “we have something for you” Nate chimed in on the other side of the bed on one knee and said “a future” holding the most beautiful ring I’d ever seen. The first words out of my mouth we’re “oh get fucked…” and just started crying! and of course I said yes!!
What do you love most about each other?
C: I love that no matter what state of mind I’m in or how stressed I am that no matter what, he always brings me back to myself and reminds me of our love and what’s most important.
N: I love her smile, it lights up my day.
What Does Marriage Mean To You?
The union of two souls. When you find that one person that knows you better than you know yourself. That person that knows what you are feeling and thinking without even being in the same place. Marriage is coming together as one to take on the world and all the adventures and challenges together. Promising to commit to each other no matter what.
What was the main inspiration behind your wedding day?
We are. We are doing this for us and only us. Our love for each other is unbreakable. We don’t need all the material things around us to make our wedding perfect, all we want is each other.
